1. Introduction

SmartCart ("we," "us," "our") is a mobile app that helps you compare grocery prices across online retailers. This Privacy Policy explains what information SmartCart handles and how. If you do not agree with these practices, please do not use the App.

2. What We Collect

2.1 What stays on your device

• Your shopping list (item names, categories, quantities, units)
• Your in-app preferences and settings

This data is stored using the operating system's local storage on your device. It is not transmitted to our servers and is not backed up to the cloud unless your device's own backup settings include it.

2.2 What we send to our servers

When you tap an item to compare prices or run an optimization, the App sends the search query (e.g. "chicken breast") to our price-lookup service. The query is normalized (lowercased, trimmed) and may be cached server-side to speed up future lookups.

We do not send:

• Your name, email, phone number, or any account identifiers (the App has no accounts)
• Your location
• Your device contacts, photos, or other personal data
• Your full shopping list (only the specific item you're querying)

2.3 What we don't collect at all

• Personal identification information
• Crash reports or analytics (no analytics SDK is installed in v1)
• Advertising identifiers
• Behavioral or marketing data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the search queries you send only to:

• Fetch and return current price comparisons from our data source
• Cache results so common items load faster for everyone
• Operate, maintain, and improve the price-lookup service

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or marketers.

4. Service Providers

To deliver price comparisons, SmartCart uses these subprocessors:

Each subprocessor sees only the search query string, never anything that identifies you.

5. Data Storage and Security

• Shopping list data lives only on your device. Deleting the App removes it.
• Search queries sent to our servers travel over HTTPS.
• The server-side cache stores query strings keyed by the query itself, not by any user identifier.
• We retain cached results for up to 7 days before refresh.

6. Your Rights

Because we don't collect personal information, most data-rights requests don't apply. Specifically:

• You can delete your shopping list at any time inside the App.
• You can stop sending us search queries by not using the price-comparison features.
• Uninstalling the App permanently removes all your local data.

7. Children's Privacy

SmartCart is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. The App is rated 4+ (no objectionable content) but parental judgment applies for younger users.

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have rights to know, delete, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. The App does not collect categories of personal information defined by CCPA. To make a request anyway, email therealsmartcart.app@gmail.com.

9. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA/UK, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. As above, we do not collect personal data tied to you, so most requests don't apply. Email therealsmartcart.app@gmail.com for any inquiry.

10. China Privacy Rights (PIPL)

Under the Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, residents of mainland China have rights of access, correction, deletion, portability, and the right to withdraw consent. As stated above, SmartCart does not collect personal information that identifies you, and we do not transfer personal information across borders in a way that requires PIPL consent. 11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be reflected in the "Effective Date" above. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Summary

On your device only: shopping list, preferences.

Sent to our servers: the search query when you compare prices (e.g. "milk").
